In February we hosted a Taonga Pūoro wānanga at Arahura Marae in collaboration with Haumanu Collective.
Attendees had an opportunity to foster new relationships and strengthen existing ones through the sharing of whakapapa. The wānanga was an exchange of mātauranga (knowledge) where participants delved into pūrākau associated with Taonga Pūoro and their healing properties with a chance be in workshops that specified in hands on workshops which were 1-Composition and 2- Creation of a Ngūru, traditional nose flute.
This mātauranga gave a deeper understanding of these traditional Māori musical instruments and their cultural significance and the fact that they are so much more than an instrument.
We spent time connecting to the taiao (environment), the marae, the whenua (land), and the awa (river), allowing attendees to immerse themselves in the pūrākau and elements surrounding the space in which we were in wānanga.
